Food product development
From scattered development to one product operating system.
A complex product-development process needed one governed way to move ideas from strategy to shelf.
Context
Developing a new food product involved marketing, sales, product development, quality, finance, legal, procurement, regulatory, sensory, logistics and production. Information, decisions and workflows were distributed across teams and systems, making the portfolio difficult to coordinate and control.
Intervention
Coastec worked with the client to design an end-to-end product-development methodology and deliver eight bespoke enterprise systems supporting strategy, supply chain, product development, knowledge management, value engineering, change management and risk.
Change
Previously separate processes became one connected product lifecycle—from ideation and evaluation through development, approval and launch. Teams gained a shared operating model, traceable decisions and a consistent source of product information.
Evidence
The client now manages product development through an integrated, traceable environment rather than disconnected processes and data sources, and has described the solution as “best in the industry.”

Regulatory assurance / Selected work
Electricity utility
Three days to establish the evidence.
When legacy compliance reporting was challenged, an independent and reproducible validation process made the position clear.
Context
A large electricity provider faced a US$10 million regulatory penalty after figures produced by its legacy outage management system were alleged to have overstated compliance. A three-month external audit had been unable to provide the conclusive validation the organisation required.
Intervention
Coastec extracted the underlying legacy data and replayed the relevant outage scenarios in an independent vendor’s outage management platform. This allowed the original calculations and reporting results to be tested against a separate system.
Change
A disputed regulatory position became a reproducible comparison supported by source data and independently generated results. The organisation could explain how its figures had been produced and present evidence supporting its position.
Evidence
The validation was completed in three days. The resulting evidence enabled the organisation to successfully challenge the regulatory finding, and the US$10 million penalty was withdrawn.

Product traceability / Selected work
Food production + supply chain
From paddock to plate.
A purpose-built provenance system connected physical products, production information and consumer-facing proof.
Context
A major meat producer was asked by an international customer to provide end-to-end traceability for premium meat cuts. Existing products could not provide the required chain of evidence from the source property through processing and packaging.
Intervention
Coastec combined scanners, data loggers, video, computer vision, machine learning and existing operational data sources. These components captured and connected product-identity events across the supply chain, creating a verifiable timeline for each item.
Change
Individual retail products could be connected to their production journey and traced back to the source paddock. Complex operational data became a simple provenance record that could be accessed from the packaged product.
Evidence
The system was deployed in production, enabling consumers to scan a QR code on the retail package and trace the product’s recorded journey back to its source paddock.
